In 2005, Mr. Shakur-Purvis began providing behavioral assistance and intensive in-home counseling services to youth and families in Monmouth County. Mr. Shakur-Purvis passionately works with youth and adults to help them overcome substance use issues, mental/behavioral health issues, and other problems resulting in unfavorable outcomes. Mr. Shakur-Purvis strongly advocates that all adults in a youth’s life have a responsibility to provide proper guidance and positive mentoring. Over the years, Mr. Shakur-Purvis has worked in a variety of treatment settings and has specialized in working with juvenile justice involved youth. Mr. Shakur-Purvis continues to provide intensive in-home counseling and assessment services to behaviorally challenged youth, and provide in office mental health and substance use disorder counseling to youth and adult clients. As a highly needed service and resource, Mr. Shakur-Purvis has developed and implemented a 12-week life skills training curriculum to assist youth and adults in developing or fine-tuning essential and valuable life skills. Additionally, Mr. Shakur-Purvis has served as a clinical supervisor for a number of private drug treatment programs. Complimentary to his experience, Mr. Shakur-Purvis has extensive education and credentialing in fields of substance use disorder treatment, counseling, and clinical supervision, of which he is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Supervisor. Initially, Mr. Shakur-Purvis completed his undergraduate education at Thomas Edison State College earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, specializing in mental health and rehabilitation. Mr. Shakur-Purvis continued his graduate educational pursuit at Monmouth University, earning a Master's Degree in Psychological Counseling and a Post Master's Certificate in Professional Counseling. Mr. Shakur-Purvis is currently pursuing doctoral studies in counseling and supervision.
